HighPoint Technologies HPT-1820A


In the SATA-I RAID controller shootout article, the HPT 1820A easily outperformed its competition in nearly all of the benchmarks.  It is a relatively simple controller card, sporting a PCI-X 133MHz interface, one ASIC, 8 ports, no external or replaceable cache memory, and only SATA-I 1.5 Gb/s HDD support.  Perhaps it is that simplicity which made it dance through the tests with impressive numbers.

HighPoint's Management Console is an application, unlike the browser-based interfaces used by other manufacturers in this article.  Similarly, it can access an array through the LAN.
