SATA II and SAS RAID CARD ROUNDUP
RAID-1 Summary
RAID-1 is the simplest RAID of all. Two
drives have the exact same contents, thus the name
"disk mirroring". Only two drives are used in
all the tests below. When possible, the two
drives selected are not adjacent. Typically,
it would be the #1 and #5 drives so as to maximize
the possibility of being on separate ASICs if
applicable (such as in the Promise card).

Ouch. Read speeds
really suffered here for some strange reason, but
Adaptec came out on top. Write speeds are good
for the first four cards, possibly due to optimized
caching. However, all cards except the LSIs
caused a significant increase in random access time.
Spindle sync problem perhaps?

More painful results
here. Now, write speeds have dropped across
the board. Even the LSIs are also starting to
slow down on the random access time. Adaptec
had the best read speed again.

Like RAID-0, Areca's two monster cards dominated
the smaller chunk sizes. Between 16k and 128k,
the ARC-1220 took the lead. But surprisingly,
the Adaptec ASR-31605 exceeded the competition at
chunks 256k and above.
