When the first Raptor came out, it only had
a 36GB capacity. The world was amazed with its
relatively affordable price, relatively spacious
size, its pioneering SATA interface, and remarkable
performance. The only comparable drives were
15k RPM SCSI drives such as Seagate's awesome
Cheetah. Now, the second generation Raptor has
reached a 74GB capacity, and much better
performance. Many have preferred this 74GB
over more expensive, and "faster" 15K rpm SCSI
drives. Many have stated that these Raptors
are engineered to make your system boot faster.
In this article, we will quantify that performance.
The following are the
WD740GD specs as stated by WD on their website:

The WD740GD has an impressive MTBF of 1.2 million
hours and an equally strong 5 year warranty.
Note the simplistic PCB below and their thick
cooling fins above.

The retail package
includes a SATA cable that has a special block on
the drive end that provides a much a sturdier hold,
but at the same time, covers the SATA power
connector. You will then need to use the 4-pin
Molex power connector instead.
