U320 SCSI HDD ROUNDUP

Fujitsu MAX3147
Fujitsu's latest 15K
SCSI drive is their MAX series, shown below.
We expect this model to outperform the MAU series.

The HD Tach 3.0.1.0 benchmarks for the Fujitsu MAX
drives showed very strange behavior. As you
will see below, the write speeds seemed capped at
13MB/s. Even with thorough checking,
double-checking and multiple retests using different
SCSI cables, channels, etc., the results stayed the
same. After running the ATTO tests, we were
convinced that the bug lay in HD Tach, not the MAX
HDDs. Therefore, we decided that the "Average
Write" scores were statistically invalid.

HD Tach 3.0.1.0 RW, 8MB Zones: Burst: 241.5 MB/s, Ave. Read: 82.4 MB/s, Ave. Write:
invalid, Random Access: 5.6 ms, CPU: 1%

HD Tach 3.0.1.0 RW, 32MB Zones: Burst: 241.1 MB/s, Ave. Read: 82.4 MB/s, Ave. Write:
invalid, Random Access: 5.5 ms, CPU: 1%

HD Tach 3.0.1.0 RW, VAR Zones: Burst: 233.0 MB/s, Ave. Read: 82.5 MB/s, Ave. Write:
invalid, Random Access: 5.8 ms, CPU: 1%
Contrary to the results
above, ATTO Disk Benchmark shows write speeds
expected of 15k SCSI drives.
