SEAGATE BARRACUDA ES 750GB

Windows XP Performance

The Barracuda ES was tested using the following platform, and the OS was Windows XP Pro 64-bit:

Motherboard Asus PVL-D
CPUs 2x Intel Paxville 2.8GHz
Power Supplies PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 850W SSI
Boot HDD Seagate Cheetah 15K4 143GB U320 15krpm
Cooling 2x Innovatek XX-Flow waterblocks, HPPS pump, Danger Den Black Ice Xtreme 3

The latest drivers from each manufacturer was used.

First, we ran HD Tach 3.0.  Here is the screenshot of the 8MB Zone test:

Burst Speed:  132MB/s, Ave. Read:  66.2 MB/s, Ave. Write:  58.3 MB/s, CPU: 1%,  Random Access:  13.4ms

Two similar tests using 32MB zones, and variable zones were also performed, and the results are exactly the same:

Burst Speed:  132MB/s, Ave. Read:  66.0 MB/s, Ave. Write:  65.9 MB/s, CPU: 1%,  Random Access:  13.4ms

The final test is performed using the ATTO Disk Benchmark.  Ten requests are sent simultaneously of varying sizes from 0.5k up to 1024k.

As you can see, the drive tops out at about 78MB/s with the larger data sizes.  Not bad at all!
