SEAGATE BARRACUDA ES 750GB

Introduction
A short time ago, a
certain HDD manufacturer encountered backlash from
consumers because their high-capacity drive started
failing because of 24/7 operation, or used in RAID
environments. Since then, HDD manufacturers
became more explicit in their documentation, stating
how their drives may or may not be used in 24/7
operation or RAID configurations.
Fast forward to
mid-2006. Seagate launches their 7200.10
Barracuda drive, sporting 16MB of cache, 7200 RPM,
and 750GB of cavernous space. At the time, the
7200.10 simply smashed all other drives' benchmarks.
It was THE fastest 7200 RPM drive, and THE BIGGEST
as well. But it was designed for the consumer
- those folks that do not run drives in RAID, or 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.
To address the needs of
enterprises and OEMs that do require 24/7
reliability and certified RAID-capable drives,
Seagate released the Barracuda ES drive.
End-users cannot purchase this drive from retailers,
but it can be found on the web for about $500 on
average.
