WESTERN DIGITAL SCORPIO 320GB

We recently published a write-up on Fujitsu's 300GB 2.5" SATA drive, the world's first 300GB 2.5" drive.  It was impressive, but had more girth than many notebooks and external enclosures can accept.  In this article, we look at the next step in 2.5" capacities, 320GB, from an unlikely source - Western Digital.  Although WD's Scorpio has been around a couple years, it has been behind the pack led.  Only recently has the company injected new life into it, and now it has leapfrogged the others in very impressive fashion.

Here are the WD-supplied specifications.  Note that in the Scorpio family, only the 320GB comes in SATA-3Gb/s.  3-year warranty is not bad.

This is what 2.5" HDD greatness looks like:

Now we go to the tests.  The 320GB Scorpio was tested on the following platform:

The operating system is Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition.

HDTach 3.0.1.0 8MB Zones

HDTach 3.0.1.0 32MB Zones

ATTO Mark

WOW.  That's all we can say - wow.  Yes, we have a winner!  As of this writing, the Western Digital Scorpio 320GB is THE FASTEST 2.5" HDD  we've ever tested, faster than 7200RPM drives!  No doubt, this drive is a no-brainer.  Its fast, its slim, and is backed by a 3-year warranty.  This should be the last 2.5" HDD you'd ever buy.
