FUJITSU MHX2300BT

It's been quite some
time since we've done a 2.5" HDD story. Here,
we will start testing these little drives again with
the first SATA-based 2.5" HDD in our labs, the
Fujitsu MHX2300BT 300GB mini-monster. Not just
is this drive spacious for data, it is also a bit
plump physically, measuring 12.5mm tall, 3mm taller
than standard 9.5mm notebook HDDs. So buyer
beware - make sure there is enough height in your
application for this drive. Other noteworthy
features are a 4200RPM spindle speed, slow but
energy-efficient, a great 8MB cache, and super quiet
operation.

It looks very much the
same as other 2.5" HDDs. Here are the top and
bottom images:

Now we go to the tests.
The MHX2300BT was tested on the following platform:
The operating system is
Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition.

HDTach 3.0.1.0 8MB Zones

HDTach 3.0.1.0 32MB Zones

ATTO Mark
Based on these results,
we can conclude that the performance of the
MHX2300BT is average. However, considering
that the drive spins at 4200 RPM, is extremely
quiet, power efficient, and has a capacity of 300GB,
that is a major leap over previous drives tested in
the lab spinning at 5400 RPM, and very close to a
7200 RPM model! The only negative that one can
say about the MHX2300BT is its heft. 12.5mm
makes it too tall to fit in many external enclosures
and notebook PCs.
