1TB SATA HDDs!

Hitachi 7K1000
Hitachi has always been a pioneer in releasing
ground-breaking drive capacities in the market.
They were first in the 400GB and 500GB capacities,
and also in the 1TB milestone as well. The
750GB honors went to Seagate for being first.
Anyways, the 1TB Hitachi drive is aptly named the
7K1000. Hitachi clearly specifies on its
packaging that the "1.0 TB" designation is 1000GB,
not the more technically accurate 1024GB.

Here are the manufacturer-supplied
specifications:

The 7K1000 employs 5 platters, each holding
200GB. As we have seen over the years, data
transfer rate is directly proportional to areal
density. Let's keep this in mind when
examining the other 1TB drives. Another key
feature here is the doubled buffer size - a massive
32MB. This drive has more DRAM than my first
486! Lastly, Hitachi covers the 7K1000 with a
3 year warranty.
