LSI
3Ware 9650SE-16ML
and 9690SA-8I RAID CONTROLLERS

UPDATE:
LSI Corporation recently (April 2009) acquired the 3Ware RAID adapter business of Applied Micro Circuits Corporation
Introduction
We were pleased to
recently discover that LSI's LSI 3Ware line of RAID
controllers have a few new models in it. In
this article, we will examine the performance of two
particular units, the 9650SE-16ML SATA RAID and the
9690SA-8I SAS RAID. Tests will be performed on
the following platform:
As with previous SATA
RAID tests, we will use 8x Seagate Barracuda ES
750GB HDDs. For the SAS RAID tests, we are
using 2x Seagate Cheetah 15K5 300GB and 2x Hitachi
UltraStar 15K300. Every available RAID level
in hardware will be benchmarked using the minimum
and maximum stripe sizes, and no initialization.
We are well aware that initialization is necessary
for proper write performance, however initialization
simply takes too much time. Benchmarks are
HDTach 3.0.1.0 and ATTO Disk Benchmark.
