MSI MS-1057 CORE 2 DUO NOTEBOOK

Installing the CPU, Memory, HDD, and Wireless
MSI provides us with a
downloadable PDF assembly guide
here.
Let's get to know our
parts:
Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM 60GB

Crucial 2GB DDR2-667

Intel Core2Duo Mobile T5600

Intel MiniPCIe Wireless
3945ABG

MSI MS-1057 Whitebook Kit

first, we remove all the screws at the bottom of the
unit. We use a magnet to pull them out of the
holes as some of them are stuck. Screws are
placed in a safe container to prevent loss.

Turning the unit over, we remove the palm rest and
the keyboard.

Next, we remove a couple more screws holding the
protective metal shield over the middle part of the
system.

The DIMMs are located in the middle of the system.
The two sticks are installed carefully, ensuring
that the tabs align.

Toward the front of the system, the miniPCIe slot is
where the 3945ABG card goes into. The two
antenna wires connect to the card, and one screw
holds it in place.

Beside the MiniPCIe card is the parallel ATA HDD
interface. The Hitachi is first attached to
its cage and connector, then to the mainboard.

Lastly, we install the CPU. A small screw on
the socket must be turned to lock it.
Protective tape is removed from the heatpipe cooler,
and thermal paste is thinly applied on the CPU core.

The cooler is then carefully placed over the CPU,
and the screws are tightened equally.

Now we test the system for functionality before we
complete put it back together. Looks like it
worked the first time!

This is what a complete MS-1057 looks like.
Note that the BIOS had to be updated in order to
make use of the new Core2Duo "merom" CPU.

The last step is setting up the BIOS. Here are
shot of the MS-1057 BIOS screens:
