ASUS, SUPERMICRO
and TYAN SEABURG MOTHERBOARDS
Tyan Tempest i5400XL S5396
Tyan and Supermicro boards have historically been
similar in their product designs and offerings.
But this time, we see some sharp differences between
their two Seaburg offerings. Most notably, the
Tyan S5396 has an on-board LSI 1068E SAS controller,
and support for only 1333MHz FSB Xeons - quite
disappointing.

As we can see here, there is no
special UIO slot, no IPMI, no CF-IDE, but there
is on-board SAS (thereby saving a slot),
Firewire, and audio. Notice how the power
delivery circuits beside the CPU sockets differ
from the Asus and Supermicro boards.
Again, we have to reiterate the
fact that Tyan explicitly does not support
1600MHz FSB Xeons on this system. We
therefore tested this board with the X5450
processors, 3.0GHz / 1333MHz / 12MB cache.
We didn't bother the the graphics tests.
