DUAL XEON MBs with PAXVILLE, WOODCREST and CLOVERTOWN CPUs

SuperMicro X7DAE
SuperMicro has always been a leading manufacturer
and designer of servers and workstations for the
longest time. Here we look at the X7DAE, one
of their plain-vanilla dual-Socket771 Xeon
platforms. The Clovertown Xeons will be used
on this system during testing. Here are its
specs as shown in their website:

below for detailed images of a retail version of the
X7DAE. Some photos may already show the CPUs
installed:

The X7DAE has six SATA
ports, although only one PATA port useable with HDDs
or optical drives. The second 40-pin IDE
connector is actually for use with Compact Flash
only. Eight DIMM slots are provided, and these
require the Fully-Buffered DDR2 modules, or FB-DIMMs.
Don't mind the green PCI-X slot. That's only
relevant in the other versions of this board where
there is a SCSI controller on board. As for
PCI-Express, there are two x16 slots, but only the
first one has 16 lanes. The other has only
four.
Here are images of the
BIOS screens:
With a pair of
Clovertown Xeons, we see Task Manager showing a
total of EIGHT processing threads. Unlike the
Paxville system, these 8 are TRUE and REAL, not
virtual or hyperthreaded processors.

Here are some benchmarks using the E5320 Clovertowns:
